ITEM SUMMARY

Public Hearing and consideration of an Ordinance to amend City of Plano Ordinance No. 2025-6-14, codified as Article II, Building Code, of Chapter 6 of the Code of Ordinances; revising the procedures for issuance and revocation of certificates of occupancy; and providing a repealer clause, a severability clause, a savings clause, a penalty clause, a publication clause, and an effective date. Conducted and adopted Ordinance No. 2025-7-9

BACKGROUND

The purpose of this agenda item is to amend the Building Code to align with the Zoning Ordinance regarding procedures for the denial and revocation of Certificates of Occupancy by the City’s Building Official.

 

The proposed changes support the city’s ongoing efforts to improve Ordinance clarity and ensure alignment with broader policy goals.  Staff recommends approval.

 

A companion item to this agenda is for the consideration of amendments to the Zoning Ordinance to provide procedures for the denial and revocation of Certificates of Occupancy based on zoning use violations.

 

In coordination with the Zoning Ordinance, the Building Standards Commission held a public hearing during their meeting on July 15, 2025, to discuss the proposed revisions to the Building Code.

 

The Building Standards Commission unanimously approved the agenda item to forward the proposed revisions to the City Council with their recommendation for approval.
