In 2010, the City of Plano acquired a tract of land at the northwest corner of the intersection of Alma Drive and Park Boulevard. A portion of the tract will be used as the site for the proposed public safety complex and the remainder will be developed as a park.
The proposed park was initially named in honor of the family that sold the land to the city; however, the name must be changed to avoid confusion with an area development. In accordance with the policy for naming parks and recreation facilities, a naming committee was appointed to consider a new name for the proposed park.
The naming committee met on July 15, 2025, to consider potential names for the proposed park. Ravenglass Drive is the name of the street along the west perimeter of the proposed park. The Ravenglass Estates neighborhood, developed approximately 30 years ago, is located adjacent to the north boundary of the proposed park. Ravenglass Estates is known for its peaceful atmosphere, well-maintained streets, and is often described as a family-friendly area. The naming committee felt that the Ravenglass name would maintain the special relationship between the neighborhood and the proposed park. Based on this information, the naming committee recommended the proposed park be named Ravenglass Park.
The name change must be approved by a simple majority vote of the City Council members present at the meeting.
