BACKGROUND

The Engineering Department recommends approval of an expenditure in the amount of $373,000 for engineering professional services from Huitt-Zollars, Inc. for Bridge Repairs Phase III - Construction Plans. This project includes repairs at 43 bridges.  The total expenditure is for $373,000.

Huitt-Zollars, Inc. was deemed most qualified based on their Statement of Qualifications submission for RFQ No. 2019-0396-X.

The benefit of this project includes maintenance of bridges, repairing bridge decks, providing or repairing channel protection, mitigating erosion under bridges and up- and down-stream in channels, addressing any deteriorating structural elements on or under bridges, and re-painting rails along the bridges. These improvements were identified in the bi-annual TxDOT Bridge Reports completed for each bridge in the City of Plano.

Not approving the expenditure would result in continued deterioration of the bridges resulting in escalating Plano Public Works maintenance costs and public safety concerns with aging bridge structures.
