| | | | | | | | ITEM SUMMARY To approve an increase to the current awarded contract amount of $4,206,319 by $77,874, for a total contract amount of $4,284,193, for Intersection Improvements - Park Boulevard at Coit Road, Custer Road, Alma Drive, K Avenue, and Jupiter Road, Project No. 5989.1, from Jim Bowman Construction Company, L.P. for the Engineering Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. (Contract No. 2020-0429-B; Change Order No. 1) Approved

| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND The Engineering Department recommends approval of Change Order No. 1 for the increase in the construction contract with Jim Bowman Construction Company, L.P. in the amount of $77,874 for Intersection Improvements – Park Boulevard at Coit Road, Custer Road, Alma Drive, K Avenue, and Jupiter Road, Project No. 5989.1.
Change Order No. 1 includes the increase in size for longer traffic signal poles and larger foundations necessary to avoid existing utility conflicts unforeseen prior to beginning construction at the Coit Road and Park Boulevard and Jupiter Road and Park Boulevard intersections. Also included are other utility changes necessitated by discovery of existing utilities in conflict at both intersections.
If this change order is not approved, it will result in incomplete and undersized facilities at both intersections, decreasing the safety for motorists travelling these two intersections, and resulting in additional maintenance costs.

| | | | | | | | FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS Funding for this item is available in the 2020-21 Street Improvements CIP. The first Change Order to the construction contract for Intersection Improvements - Park Boulevard at Coit Road, Custer Road, Alma Drive, K Avenue, and Jupiter Road, Project No. 5989.1, in the total estimated amount of $77,874, will leave a current year balance of $3,002,446 for future project expenditures.
Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
