The Engineering Department recommends approval of an expenditure in the amount of $51,461 for materials testing professional services from Reed Engineering Group, LTD, for the Commerce Drive Reconstruction - 15th St to Plano Pkwy - #7141 project .
This project includes complete reconstruction of approximately 2,400 linear feet of Commerce Drive, 37-foot (back of curb to back of curb) wide collector street from Plano Parkway to 15th Street, including replacement of roadway paving, sidewalk, barrier free ramps, 12” ductile iron water line and storm sewer. The total expenditure amount is for $51,461.
Reed Engineering Group, LTD, was deemed most qualified based on their Statement of Qualifications submission for RFQ No. 2019-0397-X.
The benefit of this project includes replacing old cast iron water lines with PVC pipe, increasing storm drain system capacity, and replacing failing subgrade, concrete pavement, and sidewalks. These improvements will reduce water system outages, reduce localized flooding concerns within the city’s right-of-way, and reduce future pavement maintenance costs.
Not approving the expenditure would result in limiting the Contractor’s accountability to provide city required specifications on materials constructed, which could possibly reduce the infrastructure’s service life and require increase maintenance costs.
