ITEM SUMMARY

RFB No. 2021-0445-B for Sidewalk Improvements - 15th Street from Coit Road to Custer Road, Project No. 7138.1, for the Engineering Department to MHB Construction, Inc. in the amount of $1,491,283; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. Approved

BACKGROUND

The Engineering Department opened bids on July 22, 2021 for the Sidewalk Improvements – 15th Street from Coit Road to Custer Road. The project includes removal and replacement of concrete sidewalk and curb ramps, new concrete sidewalk to complete continuous pedestrian access along the project limits, installation of concrete shelter pads for future DART bus stops, removal of shrubs and living screening and installation of masonry screening wall.

 

The lowest responsive and responsible bid was submitted by MHB Construction, Inc., in the amount of $1,491,283. There were a total of 1,423 vendors notified of this project. 10 complete bids were received for the project as shown in the attached bid recap.

 

If this project is not awarded, there will be increased future maintenance cost related to maintaining the existing living screening wall and the pedestrian routes within the project limits will continue to have discontinuity leading to reduction in the quality of life for the residents.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS

Funds for this item are planned in the 2021-22 Street Improvements CIP.  Construction services for the Sidewalk Improvements - 15th Street from Coit Road to Custer Road project, in the total estimated amount of $1,491,283, will leave a balance of $333,717 for future project expenditures.

 

Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
