ITEM SUMMARY

Ordinance No. 2021-9-17: To repeal Ordinance No. 2021-4-2; establishing the number of certain classifications within the Fire Department for fiscal year 2021-22; establishing the authorized number and effective dates of such positions for each classification; establishing a salary plan for the Fire Department effective September 27, 2021; and providing a repealer clause, a severability clause and an effective date. Adopted

BACKGROUND

This item provides for the approval of the pay plans for our fire personnel who fall under the State’s Civil Service program under Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code.  Per Chapter 143, it is a statutory requirement for the City Council to approve the number of positions for each classification (i.e. positions within the department).  It is important to note the number of classifications within the Fire Captain rank will increase by one (1), and the number of positions in the Fire Lieutenant rank will decrease by one (1). 

 

The overall effective date for salary adjustments is September 27, 2021 which reflects a 3% increase.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS

There is not a financial impact associated with this aspect of statutory compliance under Chapter 143 of the Local Government Code.

 

Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factors of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government and supporting Safe, Vibrant Neighborhoods.
