BACKGROUND

Every three years, fire codes are promulgated by the International Code Council.

For the past year and a half, staff has been engaged in the code review process for the 2021 Codes through the North Texas Council of Governments.  Upon completion of this process, the codes were further vetted though our Building Standards Commission.  Our review is now complete.  The following 2021 Fire Codes with amendments are recommended to the City Council for adoption.

2021 International Fire Code

With almost six hundred pages of material and associated building product improvement each year, some changes will occur.  However, the community is a big part of the evolution of code adoption and remain involved at the national, state, and regional levels.  Many changes in the codes are editorial in nature and consist of relocated information and clarification language and meaning.

All fire codes represent the approved minimum standards for building safety.
