| | | | | | | | PREVIOUS ACTION/PRESENTATION In 2018, the City began the NextGen Fiber Project, a three-phase initiative that will interconnect City facilities, traffic intersections, water towers, and lift stations.
On July 22, 2019, City Council approved the proposal in the amount of $2,185,902 for OSP Fiber Cabling Network Phase II, Project No. 7130 for the Technology Services Department to Gardner Telecommunications, LLC.
|
| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND As part of the larger NextGen Fiber project, Phase II began In 2019, to connect 80 City facilities and 105 traffic intersections via a fiber optic network to provide an increased network capacity with increased reliability. The Phase II project is now complete. This Change Order No 9 reconciles closeout of the project and returns unused project items either not necessary as determined in the field or overestimates of plan quantities. The previous change orders were executed administratively because they were contractual modifications without cost impacts or cumulatively below the $50,000 threshold.
To summarize the status of the NextGen Fiber Project, the first two phases are complete. Phase I consisted of approximately 35 miles of fiber and Phase II consisted of approximately 28 miles of fiber. Phase III is currently under construction, which includes approximately 17 miles of fiber with installation either underground or aerial, depending on the route. There are only two (2) locations remaining to complete this project.

| | | | | | | | FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS This item approves a decrease in the contract with Gardner Telecommunications, LLC for fiber connectivity to City of Plano facilities and traffic intersections. Reducing the current contract by $176,589 reconciles closeout of the project and returns unused funds back into the account.
Approval of this item supports the City’s Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor as an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government. |
