ITEM SUMMARY

RFB No. 2022-0239-B for Battery Replacement for Radio Shop to DAWCOM, LLC in the estimated amount of $118,538; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. Approved

BACKGROUND

Technology Services proposes awarding RFB 2022-0239-B to DAWCOM, LLC, the lowest responsive, responsible bidder, for the installation of new batteries and charging systems for the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) that provides power conditioning and backup power to the public safety microwave radio system. An award to DAWCOM, LLC will be in the estimated amount of $118,538.00. This purchase, if approved, will be funded out of Technology Services replacement fund.

The City of Plano has 7 radio communication tower sites that contain the microwave radio backbone network where the power is supported by an uninterrupted power supply (UPS) battery system that has become end of life.

This purchase, if approved, will replace batteries and charging systems that are thirteen years old which poses a concern to the continued redundancy of service provided by our public safety radio system.

The age of these batteries and chargers create reliability concerns that prompt us to recommend this replacement to be considered high priority as we strive to maintain the highest standard for our public safety radio system. Technology Services would not be able to ensure consistent and reliable power towards the redundancy of our radio system network without this approval.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS

Funding for this item is available in the 2021-22 Technology Replacement Fund.  This request is to approve the purchase and installation of new batteries and charging systems for the public safety microwave radio system from Dawcom LLC, in the estimated amount of $118,538, which will leave a remaining balance of $1,242,084 for additional expenditures in the 2021-22 Technology Replacement Fund.

Approval of this item supports the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factors of Safe, Vibrant Neighborhoods, and Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
