The Engineering Department recommends approval of Contract Modification No. 1 for the increase in the construction materials testing services agreement with Braun Intertec Corporation in the amount of $76,250 for Project No. 5989.1 Intersection Improvements for Park Boulevard at Coit Road, Custer Road, Alma Drive, K Avenue, & Jupiter Road.

The construction materials testing services agreement was executed on April 2, 2020 in the amount of $38,934.  Contract Modification No. 1 includes additional compensation for construction materials testing due to revised construction phasing modifications.  These revisions resulted in a more condensed schedule and better quality concrete pours.  These steps will result in a longer lasting infrastructure and decreased public delays during construction.

If this contract modification is not approved, it would result in limiting the contractor's accountability to provide materials meeting the specified requirements and City of Plano standards, which could possibly reduce the infrastructure's service life and result in further maintenance costs. 

Funding for this item is available in the 2021-22 Street Improvement CIP.  The first modification to the professional services agreement for additional materials testing in the Intersection Improvements for Park Boulevard project, in the total estimated amount of $76,250, will leave a current year balance of $338,854 for future project expenditures.
