Technology Services recommends purchasing Enhanced Data with Location Services as a Sole Source purchase from Motorola. This purchase includes hardware, software and installation services. An award to Motorola will be in the estimated amount of $265,555.
This purchase, if approved, would provide the data that can enable both the Police Department and Public Safety Communication dispatchers to see the geographical location of our officer’s portable radios. A future purchase will be required in order to integrate this data into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. This technology solution will enhance our police officer’s safety by letting the police department and dispatchers see location information at any given time and provide a logistical tool in the event of a multiple officer situation.
With the City’s efforts to provide the technology and tools needed to enhance our officer’s safety and increase our public safety dispatcher’s ability to respond more effectively and efficiently, we recommend this purchase be considered a high priority. If this purchase is not approved, Technology Services would not have the ability to provide the location of our officers in real time.
The City is authorized to purchase from the State Contract list pursuant to Chapter 271 Subchapter D of the Texas Local Government Code and by doing so satisfies any State Law requiring local governments to seek competitive bids for items.
