| | | | | | | | ITEM SUMMARY To approve an increase to the current awarded contract amount of $1,900,327 by $183,296, for a total contract amount of $2,083,623, for the Wood Park 1 and Dallas North Estates Paving, Drainage, and Water Improvements, Project No. 6900.1, from KIK Underground, LLC for the Engineering Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. (Contract No. 2020-0728-B; Change Order No. 1) Approved |
| | | | | | | | PREVIOUS ACTION/PRESENTATION On December 14, 2020, City Council awarded a bid in the amount of $1,900,327 for Wood Park 1 and Dallas North Estates Paving, Drainage, and Water Improvements, Project No. 6900.1 to KIK Underground, LLC. |
| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND The Engineering Department recommends approval of Change Order No. 1 for the increase in the construction contract with KIK Underground, LLC, in the amount of $183,296, for the Wood Park 1 and Dallas North Estates Paving, Drainage, and Water Improvements project.
Change Order No. 1 includes added drainage improvements, landscape revisions to medians per City of Plano Parks requirements, water line revisions necessary to avoid utility conflicts found in the field, the addition of auto flush assemblies for cul-de-sacs, additional pavement replacement to include failing pavement in locations directed by Public Works and not previously accounted for on adjacent streets, and additional pavement added to provide a better turning radius for vehicles in the cul-de-sacs.
If this change order is not approved, there will be continued pavement failure and continued maintenance costs in the project limits. The proposed water line would not be installed due to conflicts with existing utilities causing continued maintenance and repair on existing water lines. There will be continued maintenance issues with the landscaping in the medians. There will also be localized flooding creating maintenance issues in the cul-de-sac and along adjacent property. All of the negative impacts to not approving this change order would cause increased maintenance costs for the City and have a negative impact on the quality of life for the residents in this subdivision.
|
| | | | | | | | FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS Funding for this item is available in the 2021-22 Street Improvement CIP and Water CIP. The first change order to the construction contract for additional paving, drainage, and waterline revisions, in the total estimated amount of $183,296, will leave a current year balance of $592,479 for future project expenditures.
Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government. |
