BACKGROUND

After recent winter storms, the City of Plano identified several locations that either need generators or need replacements to meet increased demand.  The Facilities division obtained quotes for generators for Fire Station 3, Fire Station 4, Fire Station 7, Fire Station 8, Facilities Maintenance, and the Animal Shelter.  Due to current extensive lead times for this equipment, the orders were placed immediately.  Presently, it is expected that this equipment will be delivered in early 2023.

Expenditures listed by location:                                  Capital Maintenance Fund Account Number

·        Fire Station 3                          $47,934                                   54405

·        Fire Station 4                          $50,754                                   54415

·        Fire Station 7                          $58,853                                   54467

·        Fire Station 8                          $55,495                                   54487

·        Facilities Maintenance            $43,773                                   54472

·        Animal Shelter                        $80,593                                   54425

The existing generators at Fire Stations 3, 4, 7 and 8 are in need of upgrading to a larger size to adequately support the loads of all of the equipment that support the operation of the Fire Department responding to calls from each station in the event of a power failure.  The generators at the Animal Shelter and Facilities Maintenance are being added to support the operations at each facility in the event of a power failure.

The City is authorized to purchase from a cooperative purchasing program with another local government or a local cooperative organization pursuant to Chapter 271 Subchapter F of the Local Government Code; and by doing so satisfies any State Law requiring local governments to seek competitive bids for items.  (HGAC Contract No. GE02-20, and City of Plano Contract No.’s 2022-0164-O, 2022-0200-O, 2022-0202-O, 2022-0204-O, 2022-0208-O, 2022-0209-O)
