RECOMMENDED ACTION:Approval of Expenditure

ITEM SUMMARY

To approve an expenditure for engineering professional services for Screening Wall Replacement - Park Boulevard, Parker Road, Independence Parkway, 14th Street & 15th Street, Project No. 7574, in the amount of $673,250 from Huitt-Zollars, Inc. for the Engineering Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. Approved

BACKGROUND

This project includes design, bidding and construction administration services for the reconstruction of approximately 6,025 linear feet of existing masonry screening wall along the following streets:

 

1. Independence Pkwy (3125 LF)

2. Parker Rd (325 LF)

3. Park Blvd (125 LF)

4. W 15th St (1850 LF)

5. 14th St (600 LF)

 

Huitt-Zollars, Inc. was deemed most qualified based on their Statement of Qualifications submission for RFQ No. 2021-0377-XR.

 

The benefit of this project includes replacing existing screening walls that are distressed. The project also includes proposed sidewalks and ramps that meet ADA criteria and alley pavement repair as needed.

 

Not approving the expenditure would result in further disrepair of the existing screening walls, causing increased maintenance costs and a reduced quality of life for residents living along these roads.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS

Funding for this item is available in the 2022-23 Street Improvement CIP and is anticipated in 2023-24, as well.  Professional design services for the Screening Wall Replacement - Park Boulevard, Parker Road, Independence Parkway, 14th Street and 15th Street project, in the total estimated amount of $673,250, will leave a project balance of $1,926,750 for future expenditures.

 

Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
