ITEM SUMMARY

To approve an increase to the current awarded contract amount of $1,805,295 by $299,798, for a total contract amount of $2,105,093, for Plano Parkway Intersection Improvements, Project No. 7063, from XIT Paving and Construction, Inc. for the Engineering Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. (Contract No. 2022-0188-B; Change Order No. 2) Approved

 

 

 

 

 

 

PREVIOUS ACTION/PRESENTATION

On March 28, 2022, Council awarded RFB No. 2022-0188-B for Plano Parkway Intersection Improvements Project No. 7063 to XIT Paving and Construction, Inc. in the amount of $1,793,546.

BACKGROUND

Change Order No. 1 was executed on July 15, 2022 for an increase of $11,749 for a total contract amount of $1,805,295.

 

The Engineering Department recommends approval of Change Order No. 2 for the increase in the construction contract with XIT Paving & Construction, Inc., in the amount of $299,798, for the Plano Parkway Intersection Improvements Project.

 

Change Order No. 2 includes additional pavement removal and replacement to address failing pavement discovered after construction commenced, deteriorating pavement removal and replacement in the eastbound turn lane along Plano Parkway approaching Independence Parkway, and the replacement of aging cast iron water lines with new PVC water lines on the north side of the intersection that were unanticipated prior to construction beginning and discovered during field investigations.

 

If this change order is not approved, the deteriorating infrastructure at this intersection will not be completed fully with the on-going improvements, resulting in future maintenance costs, possibly the removal and replacement of these new improvements to replace underground water lines, and a reduction in the quality of life for motorists and surrounding neighborhoods and businesses.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS

Funding for this item is available in the 2022-23 Street Improvement CIP.  The second change order for the Plano Parkway Intersection Improvements project, in the total estimated amount of $299,798, will leave a current year balance of $25,593 for future project expenditures.

 

Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
