ITEM SUMMARY

RFB No. 2022-0705-B for Erosion Control - Spring Creek at 16th Street, Project No. 7308, for the Engineering Department to Austin Filter Systems, Inc. in the amount of $2,570,895; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. Approved

BACKGROUND

The Engineering Department opened bids on October 13, 2022 for the Erosion Control – Spring Creek at 16th Street project. The project includes creek stabilization and erosion protection measures through the installation of gabion basket tieback wall, approximately 500 feet in length. In addition, a new hike and bike trail and pedestrian bridge will be installed along the top of the gabion basket tieback wall as part of the Chisholm Trail expansion along Spring Creek.

The lowest responsive and responsible bid was submitted by Austin Filter Systems, Inc., in the amount of $2,570,895. There were a total of 1,636 vendors notified of this project. Two (2) complete bids were received for the project as shown in the attached bid recap.

If this project is not awarded, the west streambank along Spring Creek, north of 16th Street, will continue to erode along the adjacent property on the west streambank. The continued erosion will result in the continued loss and damage of property for the adjacent property owners, as well as the Parks & Recreation Department, resulting in additional future maintenance costs and a reduction in the quality of life for City of Plano residents.
