ITEM SUMMARY

To approve an expenditure for engineering professional services for Alley Reconstruction – Sunflower Lane, Sun Meadows Street, Cherrywood Lane, Sandpiper Circle, Winding Brook Drive, Oak Shores Drive, Westmoreland Drive, Project No. 7575, in the amount of $404,100 from BGE, Inc. for the Engineering Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. Approved

BACKGROUND

The Engineering Department recommends approval of an expenditure in the amount of $404,100 for engineering professional services from BGE, Inc., for the Alley Reconstruction – Sunflower Lane, Sun Meadows Street, Cherrywood Lane, Sandpiper Circle, Winding Brook Drive, Oak Shores Drive, Westmoreland Drive, Project No. 7575. This project includes replacement of approximately 5,783 linear feet of existing alley at the following locations: 

  1. Sunflower Alley – between Sunflower Lane and Sun Meadows Street (662 LF)
  2. Sun Meadows Alley – between Sun Meadows Street and Sunflower Alley (147 LF)
  3. Cherrywood Alley – between Chelsea Lane and Cherrywood Lane (1031 LF)
  4. Sandpiper Alley – around Sandpiper Circle from Balboa Way to Balboa Way (1270 LF)
  5. Winding Brook Alley – from Winding Brook Drive to Cave River Drive (1148 LF)
  6. Oak Shores Alley – from 4563 Oak Shores Drive and 4549 Oak Shores Drive (745 LF)
  7. Westmoreland Alley – between 4001 New Forest Drive and 2704 Westmoreland Drive (780 LF)   

 

This Project also includes approximately 500 LF of screening wall replacement for Winding Brook Alley.
 
BGE, Inc. was deemed most qualified based on their Statement of Qualifications submission for RFQ No. 2021-0377-XR.

The benefit of this project includes alley pavement replacement that is deteriorating or failing, a reduction in on-going maintenance costs and an increase in the quality of life for surrounding residents.

Not approving the expenditure would result in continued deterioration of alley pavement, increased ongoing localized maintenance and costs, and a reduction in quality of life for local residents.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS

Funding for this project is available in the 2022-23 Street Improvement CIP and is planned for 2023-24, as well.  Professional design services for the Alley Reconstruction - Sunflower Lane, Sun Meadows Street, Cherrywood Lane, Sandpiper Circle, Winding Brook Drive, Oak Shores Drive, Westmoreland Drive project, in the total estimated amount of $404,100, will leave a current year balance of $45,900 for future project expenditures.

 

Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
