ITEM SUMMARY

To approve an increase to the current awarded contract amount of $4,716,481 by $450,324, for a total contract amount of $5,166,805, for Arterial Overlay Coit Road and Plano Parkway project from Austin Bridge & Road, LP for the Public Works Department; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. (Contract No. 2022-0422-B; Change Order No. 3) Approved

 

 

PREVIOUS ACTION/PRESENTATION

On May 23, 2022, City Council awarded a construction bid in the amount of $4,634,812 for repair and overlay of arterial concrete street on Coit Road, between Parker Road and SH 121 and on Plano Parkway between Park Boulevard and Preston Road. 

 

On August 16, 2022, the City Manager approved Change Order No. 1, in the amount of $55,162 to allow for additional thermoplastic street marking details needed, the repair of median noses and a remobilization fee of the project allowing the contractor to return to the City at a later date and avoid a delay in the current project scope.

 

On October 6, 2022, the City Manager approved Change Order No. 2, in the amount of $26,507 to allow for additional quantities of concrete and inlet repairs, identified in the field, as necessary to complete the overlay portion of the project to reduce future maintenance and replacement costs.

BACKGROUND

This change order is to allow for additional quantities of overlay needed. Initial quantities were underestimated and have been adjusted at the contracted unit price to reflect what is needed to complete the project.

 

Public Works recommends the approval of Change Order No. 3 to Austin Bridge & Roads, LP. The total contract amount will be $5,166,805, which is an 11.48% increase over the original amount of $4,634,812.

 

If this change order is not approved by Council, the additional quantities of overlay cannot take place, resulting in higher maintenance and repair costs in the future. Additionally, the riding surface, where the additional repairs are needed, will not be improved.

FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS

Funding for this item is available in the 2022-23 Street Improvements CIP.  The third change order for the Arterial Overlay Coit Road and Plano Parkway project, in the total estimated amount of $450,324, will leave a current year balance of $33,195 for future project expenditures.

 

Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
