The City implemented Rubrik backup and recovery systems in 2018 as a replacement to our legacy backup and recovery solution for the City’s on-premise servers and data. Recently, the City has expanded its use of Microsoft products like OneDrive and SharePoint Online. Microsoft manages the security for the underlying infrastructure for their online services, yet the protection and recovery of an organization’s data is the customer’s responsibility.
Rubrik M365 will provide us with an additional layer of security from such attacks through backups by storing our online hosted data in a secure format. The City has invested heavily in security solutions with an in-depth security strategy, and this solution will improve our security posture further by increasing data integrity for Microsoft cloud hosted data.
If this purchase is not approved, any data impacted by malware runs the risk of being held hostage by malicious actors or the recovery point we can restore from will require a significant amount of effort from staff to recreate the data. There is also a risk that some data cannot be recovered or reconstructed.
The City is authorized to purchase from the State Contract list pursuant to Chapter 271 Subchapter D of the Texas Local Government Code and by doing so satisfies any State Law requiring local governments to seek competitive bids for items.
