The Engineering Department opened bids on April 20, 2023 for the Intersection Improvements - Parker Road Corridor at Coit Road & Alma Drive project. The project includes improvements of two (2) intersections along the Parker Road corridor in the City of Plano. The work will include widening, or adding, street pavement, pedestrian ramps and facilities, utility adjustments to accommodate the additional pavement, traffic signal modifications, and pavement markings. A summary of the proposed improvements at the two (2) intersections are as follows:

1. Parker Road @ Coit Road – Add EB double left turn by shifting main lanes on Parker Road. Add WB double left turn by shifting main lanes on Parker Road.
2. Parker Road @ Alma Drive – Add SB dedicated right turn lane on Alma Road. Add WB dedicated right turn lane on Parker Road.

The lowest responsive and responsible bid was submitted by Jim Bowman Construction Company, L.P., in the amount of $2,927,499. There were a total of 1,736 vendors notified of this project. Three (3) complete bids were received for the project as shown in the attached bid recap.

If this project is not awarded, the result would be continued vehicular congestion, inadequate and unsafe pedestrian ramps and crossings, resulting in a decrease in quality of life for citizens and motorists.

Funding for this item is avalable in the 2022-23 Street Improvements CIP and is planned for future years, as well.  Construction services for the Parker Road Corridor project, in the total estimated amount of $2,927,499, will leave a current year balance of $14,751 for future project expenditures.
