ITEM SUMMARY

To approve the purchase of one (1) Tymco Street Sweeper for Fleet Services in the amount of $342,948 from Tymco through an existing contract; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents.  (BuyBoard Contract No. 685-22) Approved

BACKGROUND

It is the recommendation of Fleet Services to purchase one (1) Tymco Street Sweeper in the amount of $342,948 from Tymco through BuyBoard Contract No. 685-22.  Fleet Services and Procurement have reviewed multiple Cooperative Contract quotes and found this to be the best value for the City.

 

This unit is an approved fleet addition from Capital Outlay FY2022-23 supplement number 471001 in Municipal Drainage Operations.  This street sweeper will be utilized within the Right of Way Management group, supplementing the current contract with Sweeping Corporation of America, for street sweeping operations. City staff will be able to respond to locations quickly to address litter build up and small debris that negatively effects the aesthetics of major public thoroughfares. As part of supplement number 471001, a vacuum truck was also requested; however, this particular street sweeper includes a vacuum hose that is attached.

 

 The purchase of this unit is necessary for the following reasons:

 

1.    This unit will provide additional street sweeping and debris and litter cleanup along major arterial roads. 

 

2.    If this unit is not purchased, debris, trash, and other unsightly issues may continue to impact major public rights-of-way.

 

The City is authorized to purchase from a cooperative purchasing program with another local government or a local cooperative organization pursuant to Chapter 271 Subchapter F of the Texas Local Government Code and by doing so satisfies any State Law requiring local governments to seek competitive bids for items.  (BuyBoard Contract No. 685-22 and the City of Plano Contract No. 2023-0450-O)

 

FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS

Funds are available in the FY 2022-23 Adopted Municipal Drainage Fund budget to purchase one (1) Tymco Street Sweeper for an approved fleet addition in Cost Center 471 Municipal Drainage Operations. The purchase amount is $342,948 and the total budgeted amount for this item is $322,000. The additional funds needed for this purchase, in the amount of $20,948, are available from the fund balance. 

 

Approval of this purchase relates to the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factor of Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government.
