ITEM SUMMARY

To approve the purchase of twenty-two (22) portable Motorola APX 6000 700/800 Model 2.5 portable radios for Public Safety Communications in the estimated amount of $134,319 from Motorola Solutions, Inc. through an existing contract; and authorizing the City Manager to execute all necessary documents. (HGAC Contract No. RA05-21) Approved

BACKGROUND

The Public Safety Communications (PSC) Department recommends award of purchase to Motorola Solutions, Inc. for the replacement of end-of-life portable radios with twenty-two APX6000 series portable radios for a total amount of $134,319.  The radios will be purchased from Motorola through H-GAC Cooperative Purchasing Program.   

 

PSC worked with the City of Plano, Technology Solutions Radio Shop to identify the portable radios needed.

 

This will be the second and final phase of PSC portable radio replacements.

 

The PSC portable radios are a backup to our MCC7500 radio consoles, and consolettes.   They are also used by staff personnel to monitor real time activity.  If this item is not awarded, we will operate off end of life portable radios and not have any repair option if one or any of them stop working. PSC will not have this additional level of redundancy for emergencies.

 

The City is authorized to purchase from a cooperative purchasing program with another local government or local cooperative organization pursuant to Chapter 271 Subchapter F of the Texas Local Government Code and by doing so satisfies any State Law requiring local governments to seek competitive bids for items. (HGAC Contract No. RA05-21 and City of Plano Contract No. 2023-0574-O)

FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS

Funding is available in the 2022-23 Public Safety Communications Equipment Replacement Fund for the replacement of end-of-life radios with twenty-two (22) APX6000 series portable radios. The total estimated purchase amount is $134,319 and the total budgeted amount for these items is $135,000.

 

Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factors of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government with Safe, Vibrant Neighborhoods.
