The Engineering Department recommends approval of an expenditure in the amount of $347,000 for engineering professional services from Huitt-Zollars, Inc., for the Bridge Repairs Phase IV - Construction Plans, Project No. ENG-S-7456. This project includes improvements and maintenance to twenty bridges in Plano.
Huitt-Zollars, Inc., was deemed most qualified based on their Statement of Qualifications submission for RFQ No. 2021-0377-XR which included previous successful design work and construction administration experience. Their team has vast experience in this type of bridge design work, including work for the City of Plano Engineering Department.
The benefit of this project includes maintenance of bridges, repairing bridge decks, providing or repairing channel protection, mitigating erosion under bridges upstream and downstream in channels, addressing any deteriorating structural elements on or under bridges, and repainting rails along bridges. These elements were identified in the bi-annual TxDOT bridge inspection reports.
Not approving the expenditure would result in continued deterioration of bridge surfaces and appurtenances, resulting in increased maintenance costs and safety concerns for motorists and pedestrians traversing these bridges.
