| | | | | | | | BACKGROUND The Engineering Department recommends approval of an expenditure in the amount of $374,800 for engineering professional services from Teague Nall and Perkins, Inc. for the G Avenue Paving and Water Line Improvements – 14th Street to 15th Street project. This project includes the reconstruction of approximately 600 linear feet of concrete pavement on G Avenue between 14th Street to 15th Street in downtown Plano. Proposed enhancements include transitioning to a three-lane undivided section, integrating on-street parking, enhancing sidewalk and hardscaping features, and incorporating green spaces. The project scope also includes the replacement of approximately 550 linear feet of existing 6” water line and appurtenances from 14th Street to 15th Street, and traffic signal improvements at the 15th Street and G Avenue intersection.
Teague Nall and Perkins, Inc. was deemed most qualified based on their Statement of Qualifications submission for RFQ No. 2021-0377-XR Civil Design and based on previous engineering experience with the City of Plano, including but not limited to the Maumelle Drive & Daybreak Trail improvements, 15th Street Paving and Water Improvements, and the design of the Commerce Drive Reconstruction project.
The benefits of this project include the replacement of deteriorating pavement and antiquated water lines, reducing future maintenance costs and service interruptions, and increasing the walkability of pedestrians and traffic efficiency along G Avenue in this area of downtown.
Not approving the expenditure would result in increased ongoing localized maintenance and costs, intermittent service interruptions, and a reduction in quality of life for local residents. |
| | | | | | | | FINANCIAL SUMMARY/STRATEGIC GOALS Funding for this item is available in the 2023-24 Street Improvements CIP and is planned for future years, as well. Engineering professional services for the G Avenue Paving and Water Line Improvements project, in the total amount of $374,800, will leave a current year balance of $45,000 for future expenditures.
Approval of this item will support the City's Strategic Plan Critical Success Factors of being an Excellent, Innovative, and Accountable City Government. |
