Plano Fire-Rescue currently uses Holmatro Hydraulic Rescue Tools. Plano Fire-Rescue is seeking approval to purchase sixty-one (61) Hurst Rescue Tools for forcible entry and vehicle extrication.
The current rescue tools have been retained beyond their intended replacement cycle. Since the requested tools are battery-powered, these tools will allow for much faster deployment times as well as greater capability in a wider range of situations. If approved, these devices will be placed on our engine, truck, and rescue units to replace our current inventory of hydraulic tools.
The estimated amount for this expenditure is $838,124 and funding is available in the Fire Equipment Replacement Fund.
Failure to award the purchase will result in Plano Fire-Rescue not having these newer rescue tools on our engine, truck, and rescue units. These units will need to be replaced at a later date.
The City is authorized to purchase from a cooperative purchasing program with another local government or a local cooperative organization pursuant to Chapter 271 Subchapter F of the Texas Local Government Code and by doing so satisfies any State Law requiring local governments to seek competitive bids for items.
